Divided in half horizontally, it has two colours arranged in two stripes, the upper taking the Angola red shade and the lower the Angola black, a composition consisting of a section of a cogwheel with nine teeth, a machete that overlaps it at an angle, with the handle located on the right and the curved blade turned to the left, and a five-pointed star.
The cogwheel, the machete and the star are yellow in colour
The upper stripe is crimson red in colour and the lower one black in colour, and they represent:
a) Crimson Red — The blood shed by Angolans during colonial oppression, the struggle for national liberation and the defence of the Homeland; b) Black — The African Continent.
In the centre appears a composition consisting of a section of a cogwheel, symbol of the workers and of industrial production, of a machete, symbol of the peasants, of agricultural production and of the armed struggle, and of a star, symbol of international solidarity and of progress.
The cogwheel, the machete and the star are yellow in colour, which represents the wealth of the Country.
It was created by Joaquina Muteka, Ruth Lara and Cici Cabral
In 2003, within the scope of the constitutional revision, proposals arose for changing the design of the flag, aiming to adapt it to the new democratic era.
However, the changes were not adopted, the original flag being kept as an authentic expression of the struggle and of national identity.
The National Flag was seen and approved by the Constituent Assembly on 21 January 2010, and following Judgment of the Constitutional Court No. 111/ 2010 of 30 January, on 3 February 2010.
