The emblem of BURKINA FASO is a two-coloured flag (red and green), divided into two horizontal bands of equal dimensions. The centre of the flag is charged with a five-pointed yellow/gold star. [...] The central point of the star as well as the two upper lateral points are placed in the red band of the flag, and its two lower points in the green band.
RED: it symbolises the blood shed yesterday, today and tomorrow by the martyrs of the REVOLUTION to ensure its victory. By extension, it represents all the sacrifices of the Burkinabè People.
GREEN: It is the symbol of the various agricultural riches of our people. By extension, it symbolises the abundance that will bring happiness to our people.
YELLOW STAR: ideological guide of the Democratic and Popular Revolution in its radiant march.

The military regime implemented an emergency law in 2023 that allows the president extensive powers to combat terrorist groups operating in the country, including conscripting citizens into the security services; the VDP reportedly has been used by the military regime as a platform for the forced recruitment of dissidents and activists to silence critics.
