Name etymology

the name is a 19th-century construct of two Greek words, mikros (small) and nesoi (islands), and refers to its thousands of small islands in the western Pacific Ocean

There shall be and there is hereby adopted an official flag of the Federated States of Micronesia, which shall consist of a circle of four white stars centered on a field of blue.

The President is head of state, elected by Congress for four years by a majority of all members and limited to two consecutive terms; the Constitution calls the polity the "Federated States of Micronesia" (Art. X, s. 1).

The President alone holds national executive power and appoints principal officers who serve at his pleasure; Congress can remove him only by a two-thirds vote for treason, bribery or corruption, and it cannot be dissolved (Art. IX, s. 7; Art. X, ss. 1, 2).
